Methyl Octabromoether (RX-972) is the main product of the deep processing of tetrabromobisphenol A, with better flame retardant effect. It is an additive flame retardant, mainly used for EPS and XPS boards, and is an excellent alternative to the discontinued flame retardant hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD).

It is white crystalline powder in appearance, soluble in organic solvents such as acetone and esters, and has good stability to heat and UV light. It has a higher flame retardant effect than brominated aromatic flame retardants and has excellent thermal stability, making it safer for processing equipment and better for the performance of products, especially for plastic products processed at higher temperatures.
